Youth-Led Non-profit Offers Critical Resource to Counter AI Misinformation on Consent
SafeBae's Vibe Check empowers young people to understand consent and accountability, addressing the dangers of relying on biased AI for relationship advice.

In an era where young people are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence for guidance on sensitive topics like consent and relationships, the youth-led non-profit Safe Before Anyone Else (SafeBae) has launched Vibe Check, a vital resource to counter the potential for misinformation and harm. The free, anonymous online tool is designed to help young people understand consent, assess their behavior, and foster healthy relationships, providing a human-centered alternative to AI.
The reliance on AI for relationship advice is a growing concern. A recent UK study found that 1 in 10 young adults have consulted AI for sexual health information, while a 2025 Pew Research Center report revealed that 1 in 5 teens have engaged in romantic relationships with chatbots. Val Odiembo, a SafeBae youth programs manager, rightly points out the danger of AI affirming harmful actions and replacing genuine human connection. Vibe Check addresses this issue by providing a safe, non-judgmental space for young people to reflect on their behavior and learn about consent.
Vibe Check isn't just a website; it's a proactive intervention addressing systemic issues. The lack of comprehensive sex education in many schools leaves young people vulnerable to misinformation and harmful attitudes about consent. Vibe Check fills this gap by providing accessible, age-appropriate information and resources. Shael Norris, co-founder and executive director of SafeBae, emphasizes that the tool is based on over a decade of direct work with young people, ensuring its relevance and effectiveness.
The tool's interactive design encourages critical self-reflection. By presenting users with realistic scenarios and questions, Vibe Check prompts them to consider their behavior and the impact it may have had on others. The inclusion of mini-lessons on topics like the freeze response and consent laws related to alcohol demonstrates a commitment to providing comprehensive education.
The emphasis on accountability is crucial. Vibe Check encourages users to listen, apologize without pressure, and respect boundaries. This approach recognizes the importance of taking responsibility for one's actions and working towards creating healthier relationships. The fact that Vibe Check has already received over 3,500 unique visitors since its launch in mid-March underscores the demand for this type of resource.
Drew Davis, SafeBae's director of strategic initiatives, highlights the prevalence of online forums where individuals seek advice on sensitive topics. Vibe Check offers a safer, more informed alternative to these often-unmoderated spaces, protecting young people from potentially harmful advice and exploitation. The tool's anonymity ensures that users feel comfortable being honest with themselves and seeking help without fear of judgment.
